Race the Wolf's half marathon trail race takes runners over some of Schweitzer's best terrain. You'll enjoy spectacular views and varied terrain from flowy single track to burly off-piste climbs, for a total distance of about 13 miles (or whatever your Garmin says).
This is a challenging half marathon -ish run. Yes, we don’t care what your Garmin says, all trail races have a little distance variation. You will have one very big climb from the Outback to your next Aid Station. Please don't overestimate your fitness. The trail experience is different from the road. After you reach the Skyhouse on your climb you will enjoy the downhill sweeping cruise to your finish line!!
Aid Stations:
Mile 6.80-Outback- Water, Tailwind, Soda and minimal food.
Mile 9.4-Skyhouse-Full Aid.
IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL PARTICIPANTS TO LOOK FOR ANY EMAIL OR VIDEO POSTS SENT TO YOU WITH UPDATES AND FINAL INSTRUCTIONS. WE WILL SEND FINAL INSTRUCTIONS TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE RACE.
COURSES WILL BE HEAVILY MARKED WITH OBVIOUS DIRECTIONAL SIGNS AND FLAGGING TAPE. READ AND LISTEN TO ANY FINAL INSTRUCTIONS AND PARTICIPATE IN THE PRE-RACE MEETING AT THE START LINE. FOLLOW THE SIGN AND TAPE INSTRUCTIONS FROM BEGINNING TO END.
BACKSIDE LOOP (½)From Start Line follow pink flagging and signs, go past Horse Corral and in a short distance take a left on Upper Grrrr to Huckleberry Ridge. Follow flagging and signs. At 2 miles you will hit a dirt road go right 50 yards then go left on Cloudwalker (Service Road). Take this to the second trail on the right (unsigned) this runs parallel to the service road. Once you reach the service road again stay on it 3.80 miles to the Outback Aid Station Three at Mile 6.80. From here follow pink flagging over creek to Little Blue Ridge. Begin Climb straight up for 1.65 miles. At the top (You’ll see T bar lift) go left and head for Sky House in the distance. Go around the front and you will see Aid Station Four on the Wedding Platform just past the Lift this is Mile 9.40.. From here proceed down gravel road past pond on right and take a left on to Bear Grass Trail to the finish. 13.6 miles and
Start: 8:45 AM at the Village Clock Tower
Cutoffs:
SKY HOUSE - 4:00 PM SHARP Skyhouse is Mile 9.3; then 4 miles downhill to finish
FINISH LINE - 5:00 PM (must finish by this time to be an official finisher)
Chip timing & results: The start and finish are chip timed. Your time starts when you cross the mat.
Run Sign Up results posted at the finish line and online. You will get more instructions in the final instructions email and race briefing.
Course support: Athlete support stations with Water, Tailwind, food. Highly Suggested that you carry what has worked for you nutritionally.. Self-support between stations. You should be able to carry your own water in a pack, on a belt or in handteens. Medical support on course.
Awards: 1-3 overall and 1-3 /10 year age group, all finishers take home a Race the Wolf finisher shirt.
Packet Pickup: 1:00-3:00 PM Saturday June 22 or RACE DAY STARTING AT 06:00 AM BOTH OF THESE ARE EASY TO FIND IN THE VILLAGE BY THE CLOCK TOWER
Pre-race Briefing: 30 min. before race start
Post-race food and drink: Courtesy of Schweitzer for all marathon/half marathon participants. Full meal, beverages, and cold beer provided to celebrate your day!
Spectating: The best place to watch your participant is from the Skyhouse at mile 9.5, with a lift ticket.
Parking: In Gateway Parking Lot next to the village, or in Fall Line parking lot if Gateway lot is full. RV camping only at Fire Station Parking Lot near the large Schweitzer sign traffic circle.
No bib transfers, no refunds and no deferrals. For valid medical deferrals contact Race Director with contact form on this page. Sometimes training plans change so participants may change distance to a shorter race if needed. Deadline to drop from the Marathon to the Half, or from the Half Marathon to the 5 Miler is June 15, 2024.
The races will be held rain or shine and you are responsible for your well being under possible weather changes that may occur.
YOUR COURSE
This is a trail race which requires participants to navigate trail, dirt road, and off-trail sections. Map files are one tool for participants to use. It is critical that all participants FOLLOW ALL PRE RACE INSTRUCTIONS, THE COURSE IS DEFINED AS WHAT IS MARKED WITH FLAGGING AND DIRECTIONAL SIGNS ON RACE DAY. IT IS MARKED WELL, JUST FOLLOW THE MARKINGS TO YOUR FINISH!!!
