Plan Ahead & Prepare

The extended outlook is clear and HOT at this time, however, the weather in the mountains can change quickly. It is the racer’s responsibility to check the weather for race week as you travel, and up through the start of the race. The most accurate forecast can be found here:

Recommended Gear

Plan accordingly with your ability to carry fluids. Plan to bring appropriate rain/cold weather jackets, tops, arm warmers and a hat in the event of a weather change. Read Aid Station information below. Most of the course is exposed alpine terrain. sunblock is highly advised. Be prepared for all weather conditions and check the forecast.

Race Day Parking

Event parking will be directed to the Gateway Parking Lot immediately below the village.

Race Day

Mandatory Gear

You will be required to have the ability to carry 32oz. of fluid during the race. Present this (your hydration pack or bottles) at check-in to receive your packet.

Bee and wasp season has begun! Be prepared for bee stings - have your EpiPen if prescribed.

The routes are in exceptional shape with the usual summer growth of huckleberries coming in.

THE 25K AND 50K ARE VERY DIFFICULT COURSES! This will not be an easy 16 or 32 mile run. You can expect steep off-trail climbs with scree and scrambling. You may be out of your comfort zone at times and will definitely earn your finisher's award.

IMPORTANT: Dogs are not permitted on course.

Course Markings

The routes will be well marked (as in OCD marked), so have no fear about getting lost. Follow the flagging and READ RACE SIGNS. You will receive detailed instructions at the pre-race talk Friday night.

Aid Stations & Facilities

There are three full stations: Outback (#1), Sky House (#2) and the Clock Tower (#3) at the Start/Finish area for the 52k and 25k. A water-only drop is at Picnic Point.

We will provide Tailwind (orange), water and Coke along with Hammer gels, chips, cookies, fruit, PBJ and other typical fare. Many of you have your own system of nutrition and needs, so plan accordingly.

Portable toilets 100 yards to east of start line. Full toilets at Outback & Sky House. Waste receptacles will be at aid stations or pack out your trash. If you are caught littering you will be disqualified. Please respect the alpine environment and our host Schweitzer Mountain Resort.

If you need to withdrawal, do so at an aid station (Sky House or the start/finish). You will be instructed to take the lift down from the Sky House, and listed as DNF. If you miss a time cut-off, you will also be directed to take the lift down and listed as DNF.

Drop Bags

The Start/Finish Aid Station (village Clock Tower) is the site of your only drop bag and this is for the 52K only. These need to be dropped Saturday morning prior to your start-bring to start line with you. 52k racers will pass the Start/Finish line to begin lap two.
